Dear St. Charles Parents,

We want to give our students every opportunity to become great scientists and engineers. If you are interested in this as well, there is a way you can help.

We will be starting a Lego League competition team for grades 4-8 next year. The team consists of 10 students who will build a robot to complete a set of tasks. The team will also identify a real-world engineering problem, propose a solution to that problem, and create an inventive presentation to convey the problem and the solution to members of the community impacted by the problem. The team will work on its robot and presentation over the course of 10 weeks in the fall and then will compete against other teams at a regional tournament in late November or early December.

Check out this link to see what the League is all about. There are currently more than 600 teams in the state, most of which are affiliated with a school.

We have one coach, but the kids need additional coaches and volunteers to make the program work. If you have a science or engineering background, your help would be greatly appreciated. But you don’t need an engineering background to help. Simply being present at the meetings to supervise and encourage the kids will help. We will also need help with fundraising and organizing snacks.

We will be holding an informational meeting for parents interested in volunteering on April 5th at 6:30 PM. Please come and help us get this great program started at St. Charles. Please contact me with questions: Ted Magee at tmagee@wck.com.
